  • Self-Defense Firearms Basics

  • Shooting Fundamentals

  • The Legal Use of Force

  • Plus: Personal Safety, Handgun Safety, Handgun Fundamentals, Handgun Operation, Handgun Selection, Physiological Reactions to Violent Encounters

  • Certificates of training will be handed out to each passing student at the conclusion of class.

Required Items

  • Ammunition: 50 rounds of factory ammunition (available for purchase the morning of class)

  • Close-toed Shoes

  • Brimmed Hat: This will help prevent spent casings from getting stuck behind your eye protection.

  • Handgun: If you do not own a handgun, one can be provided to you. If you choose to borrow a .22 caliber handgun, we can supply the ammunition. However, if you select a larger caliber handgun to use for the day, you will need to purchase your own ammunition the morning of class.

  • Pen & Notebook

  • Ear and Eye Protection: Prescription lens are acceptable.

  • Lunch will be provided.

Cancellation Policy and Disclaimers: Students are required to cancel at least 72 hours in advance of a class date in order to receive a full refund. Classes cancelled less than 72 hours before the class may be rescheduled but not refunded. We will do our best to assist you, however, rescheduling is dependent upon availability. Students who arrive at training impaired, who provide reason to believe they are impaired, or who smell like marijuana or alcohol will not be allowed to participate in class.

11 April 2026 Defensive Pistol Level 1
$120.00

Our Defensive Pistol 1 class introduces students to the fundamentals of safe firearm handling, operation, and marksmanship. It covers topics such as safety rules, parts and functions of a pistol, loading and unloading procedures, proper stance, grip, sight alignment, and trigger control. Students also practice live-fire exercises under instructor supervision to build confidence and accuracy. By the end of the class, participants understand how to safely handle, store, and maintain a handgun.

Prior to registering for Defensive Pistol 2, students must have completed this course or possess a current Michigan Concealed Pistol License.

This course is designed for those who are interested in learning the basic rifle operations in order to excel in further training. During this 6-hour block of instruction, students will train on the following techniques:

Location: Holton Gun & Bow Club: 6201 E Crystal Lake Rd, Holton, MI 49425

End Time: Approximately 2:00PM

Carbine Level 1 (Mixed format of classroom and range):

  • Safety

  • Stances (Prone, Kneeling Standing)

  • Fundamentals of Marksmanship

    • Grip (Push Pull)

    • Breathing

    • Trigger Press

  • Zero (30 rounds)

  • Height Over Bore

  • Malfunctions

  • Dot Drill (30 rounds at 25, 50, and 100 yards)

Required Items:

  • Carbine/AK Platform Firearm

  • 150 Rounds of Factory Ammunition (Minimum)

  • 2 Magazines

  • Weapon Sling (No Single Point Slings)

  • Ear and Eye Protection

  • Gloves and Knee Pads (Optional)
